Teaching
My background as a Bedouin, (secular) Muslim queer person who grew up in Israel has shaped my commitment to community and service in the classroom and beyond. I consider myself a public scholar and activist, with great interest in reaching beyond academic publics. This comes out of necessity, as is clear in some of my podcasts, editorials, and interviews (such as this Haaretz op-ed). Yet it is also a set of skills and a vision I have cultivated over the years, beginning as a K-12 teacher in Palestine/Israel, and later as a graduate student and professor in the United States. I am dedicated to teaching, publishing and speaking to a wide range of publics and working toward social justice for queer people around the world.
